What is the Parish Advisory Council?

Nature: The Parish Council is an advisory body to the Pastor or administrator who derives his authority from the Eparchial Bishop and must be an apostolic in nature and mission.

Purpose: The Parish Council shall act as a representative body of the whole Community of God in this Parish in common with one another and with their Pastor to meet, deliberate and act in common agreement on those matters for which they are responsible and which concerns the good of the Church and the Parish: to confer with and advise the Pastor on any matters which are brought to its attention, and to promote the Christian life and the actions of the people of the Parish to the fulfillment of our Eastern Christian responsibilities. The Council shall advise the Pastor in all matters relating to the administration and operation of the church, except to the extent that such authority or any part thereof has been reserved to the Eparchy. The council shall coordinate, encourage, and promote every apostolic activity within the parish; assure through its committees a continuous survey of both spiritual and temporal needs of the parish and after setting priorities, to develop and implement programs aimed at meeting these needs; determine and attempt to utilize the talents of all members of the parish, formulate the vision and consequent goals and objectives in light of the gospel, the Eastern vision of our Church and the policies and practices of our Diocese. The council, with the Pastor, shall also review for approval as to their conformity with the purposes above, the aims or purposes, including by-laws, financing, etc. of societies, or clubs proposed for formation and operation within the Parish. The groups, so approved, shall submit an annual report of their activities to the Council for review and evaluation. Further, the Council may, as conditions warrant, oversee the coordination of such Church groups. The Parish Council shall also submit an annual report to the Eparch with a copy to the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

The members of the parish council are stewards, who put their talents, time and treasure to help in propagating the word of God and working for the growth of His church.

Membership:  Members of the Parish Council shall be in three categories:

        1. Elected              2. Ex-officio, i.e., heads of organizations         3. Appointed
